Dealing With Divorce After Second Life

When it comes to reasons to get a divorce, watching an imaginary figure with another imaginary figure would not seem to be one of them. Yet in Cornwall, Amy Taylor, 28 is divorcing her husband, David Pollard, 40, after seeing his Second Life avatar on a sofa with a female avatar. The official reason is unreasonable behaviour, as Taylor stated, that just because it happened in cyberspace, the hurt carries over into the real world where it has just as much effect.

The couple originally met in Second Life where her avatar, Laura Skye and his avatar Dave Barmy got married in a Posh and Becks’ style wedding to celebrate the actual marriage of the couple. However, Taylor began to get interested in World of Warcraft and spent a lot of time playing there which led to her husband feeling that he was being neglected.

With so much time on his own, Pollards’ avatar Barmy started looking around, eventually seeking pleasures elsewhere. His wife eventually found his avatar having sex with a digital hooker. This lead to the avatars going their separate ways, but the real couple stayed together.

Despite her forgiveness, she went back into Second Life and hired a digital private detective to check up on her husbands’ avatar Barmy. The plan was to use a really sexy looking avatar to try to get him to make a pass at it. The plan, however, failed when Barmy told it that he was still in love with his wifes’ avatar, maybe he smelled a trap.

This seemed to calm any fears Taylor had, so life continued as normal. Then after waking from an afternoon nap , she saw her husbands’ avatar sharing a sofa with another sexy avatar and she cried enough and left him for real, moving out of the their marital home.

However, living with the cyber world means that nobody stays alone for too long. Taylor is now living with a new man she met whilst playing on World of Warcraft and Pollard has married his avatar Barmy to the avatar of twice married Linda Brinkley from Arkansas. They also have been in contact in the real world and they have become engaged. They haven’t met yet, due to the distance, but speak together on the phone quite often.

Once upon a time Second Life would have been quite an innocent place to visit, today it has all the pitfalls of real life, more so as some may think that a dalliance on line is not the same thing as doing it in the real world. This case will serve as a warning to those who think that it is.

With so many aspects to consider when it comes to relationships and dating in both the real and cyber world it is important to get as much information as possible, this is even more important if you don’t want your marriage to end in divorce.
